As you probably already know, there are hundreds if not thousands of sites on the internet related to genealogy. I have listed some of my favorites. I use these sites with fair frequency, checking back now and then... you never know what someone might have added. I believe these to be some of the most consistent and dependable sites, so I thought I'd share.
Access Genealogy
One of my favorite sites. It doesn't come up in searches often enough, but has incredible FREE resources, including bible, biography, African American, cemetery, American Indian... on and on. A great resource and worth a look.
CAGENWEB or California genealogy web site
A most excellent site for information
on the various counties of California. A great source for
biographies of early California pioneers and important people.
CAGENWEB's Madera site
CAGENWEB's Madera County site, full of Madera County Information.
California Biography Project
An incredible resource of biographies of California's early citizens.
California Tombstone Transcription Project
Absolutely the best site for listings of California Counties and the cemeteries therein. Includes, of course, Madera county.
E Clampus Vitae - Grub Gulch
A great site with a bit of humor and some interesting history about the area. Worth a look!
Family Search
Loads of information. All free. A great place to find leads, but do be careful. The information submitted is often not verified, and there are many discrepancies. As with all information you find, you should verify facts for yourself. Don't skip the site though, you'll be amazed at the clues and information you'll find.
Family Tree Guide
An incredible, spam free, cost FREE place to put your family's genealogy, photos, histories, etc. Enter the data there, or upload your gedcom files. If you want to see what it looks like, my site is MY own family genealogy. I have been very happy with the free version, but you can also pay for premium service. I recently upgraded to the pay service just to lend support to such a wonderful site. There isn't really too much difference between the two as far as functionality.
Genealogy.com
Another good source of information that can supply some great leads. My favorite thing about this site is the forums. Click on their community link and find forums for surnames and geographical information. I have had some questions answered within a day, and other questions answered that I posted two years before.
Kindred Trails™ Worldwide Genealogy Resources - Linking the World Together with Roots
A very in-depth site with many, many links. Well categorized, quick loading, and thorough. Best of all, it's free.
MY own family genealogy
If you are researching your family,
you know the feeling that you'll never complete the project. Here
is what little (so may ancestors, so little time) I have been able to put on the web. I am very
fortunate in that several family members kept records long before
searching for one's "roots" was popular.
- Surnames include King, Harris, Hancock, Hassell, Ferrell, Nixon, Bell, and Peacock.
- For a complete list click here: My Family Surnames
- Or click here for a few branches off the ol' family tree: Tree Branches
And finally, the link below to Kindred Trails' Family History store. They offer wonderful items for you or as gifts to some genealogy nut on your family tree. They have the Color Track System™; Genealogy Forms, Tools, Family Tree Charts, Genealogy Software (including Legacy, which I have used for over two years and really like), they have a Book Store, CDs, Maps, Scrapbooking supplies for genealogy and heritage related pages (another of my favorite things), Journals, Needle Arts, Family Reunion Supplies, Entertainment, Mugs, Mousepads... WHEW!
I do this because they give freely to the genealogy community with information and links, they offer many great genealogy related items, and if you purchase anything by clicking through here, I receive a small commission which will help me pay for this web site.
